SMASH Camp Description

District 61 and Millikin University have teamed up to hold a gifted camp for current and future middle school students during the summer of 2012.  Over the 6 week long duration of SMASH camp, campers will work side-by-side with local companies and organizations to make new products, create value-added services, generate awareness around a critical topic, and produce an artistic piece for new audiences. Campers pick one career sector to concentrate on during camp. These sectors include Food Science, Health, Energy, Arts, and iMedia. The first week of camp consists of orientation and team-building, technology training, etc. Students will then stay with their sector group the duration of the camp. Each group will create meaningful, relevant solutions that have been brought forward by community partners.

Apple SMASHing!

We start each morning out with our favorite camp tradition, apple SMASHing. Fireworks, cars, pinatas, baseball bats, tennis racquets, and arrows have all been used to SMASH the apple. Below is an apple SMASHing created by Mr. Aaron.

Welcome from the Flex Counselor, Ms. Stephanie

Hey everyone! My name is Miss Stephanie and I am the Flex Counselor here at SMASH Camp. I'll be helping out with all the groups here at camp this summer, as well as making sure all of the campers get their iPads. All of us here are so excited for you to get them and try out all the different apps and activities that we will be using them for. It's going to be an awesome summer and we can't wait to meet you all!
